More Ways to Support SFIC
Charitable Lead Trusts
You can provide for your loved ones and still support The Scholarship Fund
If you want to benefit from the tax savings that result from supporting The Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children, however still want your family to receive your assets one day, a charitable lead trust is a terrific option to consider.
A Charitable Lead Trust reduces your beneficiaries’ taxable income by first donating a portion of the trust’s income to The Scholarship Fund and then, after a specified period of time, the remainder of the trust is transferred your beneficiaries.
There are two ways charitable lead trusts make payments:
A charitable lead annuity trust pays a fixed amount each year to The Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children and is especially more attractive when interest rates are low.
A charitable lead unitrust pays a variable amount each year based on the value of the assets in the trust. With a unitrust, if the trust’s assets go up in value, for example, the payments to The Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children go up as well.
You may use cash, appreciated securities, real estate and closely held stocks to fund a charitable lead trust.
