The Scholarship Fund for Inner City Children’s Trustees’ Annual Christmas Breakfast |
On December 2, the Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children hosted its Annual Trustees Breakfast at Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy in Elizabeth.
Each year, the SFIC Board of Trustees invites its donors and corporate sponsors to visit a school in the Newark Archdiocese to show them the impact that their contributions have on the students they support.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy, led by Deacon Joe Caporaso, was formed two years ago by the merger of Blessed Sacrament, St. Anthony, and St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary Schools in the City of Elizabeth and is a true example of a diverse inner-city school.
Upon their arrival, the attendees immediately felt welcome when the Student Ambassadors received them and gave them a tour of their school. The guests had a chance to interact with the students and teachers. After the school tour, a delicious holiday-style breakfast was served and students from the school choir provided entertainment singing Christmas Carols in several languages.
Krystina Jimenez, an 8th grader, was selected to represent the 83 students of the Academy who are currently receiving a partial-tuition scholarship. Krystina spoke about the impact that the scholarship has on her and her family and shared her dream of one day, attending Juilliard.
“This is the best Christmas gift ever”, exclaimed, Marie Frazza of the Frazza Family Foundation. “To see how our contribution impacts the lives of these children”.
The Scholarship Fund is currently providing to 2,200 low-income K-12 students with $2.6 Million in partial-tuition scholarships to attend private and parochial schools in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2011-2012 school year.
