Donor Designated Funds

The Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children administers various donor-designated scholarship programs. 

Andrea F. Carret Scholarship

Established by Kevin Gately in memory of his late wife, Andrea Carret. This scholarship provides tuition assistance to elementary school students who reside in Newark.

Jean M. Boyle Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Jean M. Boyle by her children, this scholarship provides tuition assistance to elementary school students.

Cunningham Scholarship

This scholarship program was established by Lorraine Cunningham, former Executive Director of the Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children, and her husband, James Cunningham.

Achelis & Bodman Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship program provides 25 elementary and high school students partial tuition assistance.

The Frank Flannery Scholarship

This scholarship provides tuition assistance to students residing in Jersey City.

The Mary L. Flynn Scholarship

This scholarship provides tuition assistance to elementary school students.

The Frazza Family Scholarship

The Frazza Family established this scholarship program to provide tuition assistance to elementary school students. Recipients are eligible for annual renewal through grade 8.


The E.J. Grassman Trust

The E.J. Grassman Trust provides direct grants to Catholic Schools in Union County for the purchase of equipment and support of special school programs.

The William Randolph Hearst Scholarship

This scholarship program, established by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, provides tuition assistance to elementary and high school students.


The Investors Bank Scholarship

The investors Bank Scholarship provides high school students with four years of tuition assistance.

The Kibler Family Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. David Kibler to provide tuition assistance to a Catholic elementary student.


The Robert. M. Kossick Partnership for Success Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Sherry O’Hearn in memory of her late husband Robert M. Kossick, a loyal trustee of The Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children. The scholarship provides four years of tuition assistance to a Catholic high school student demonstrating academic and athletic promise.

The Jeanne-Marie La Blanc Scholarship

This scholarship program was established by Robert and Elizabeth La Blanc, in memory of their daughter, Jeanne-Marie.
The Jeanne-Marie La Blanc scholarship provides four years of tuition assistance to high school students.

The James Lynch Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mr. Lynch to provide tuition assistance to a Catholic
high school student.

The Mr. and Mrs. Philip Marino Scholarship

A scholarship program was established by the Marino family in recognition of its strong belief in the value of Catholic education.

The Richard J. Morgan Scholarship

A scholarship program established in honor of Richard J. Morgan provides tuition assistance to twenty-five students who remain academically qualified throughout eight years of Catholic elementary school.

The Patrick Murphy 911 Scholarship

This fund was established in 2006 by Vera Murphy Traynor in memory of her late husband, Patrick Murphy. The scholarship provides four years of tuition assistance to academically qualified high school students.


The Julie & Michael O’Brien Family Scholarship

Established in 2010, this scholarship provides tuition assistance to five students.

The Oritani Bank Charitable Foundation Scholarship

This $15,000 scholarship established by The Oritani Bank Charitable Foundation will provide five students with a $1,000 general scholarship for the 2016-2017 school year and one high school freshman attending a school in Hudson County with a $2,500 annual partial-tuition scholarship for four years.


The O’Toole Family Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Polly and Terry O’Toole to provide four years of tuition assistance to twelve high school students who reside in Newark or Irvington.



The Adeline O. Picozzi Scholarship

This scholarship was established by James and Victor Picozzi in honor of their sister, Adeline O. Picozzi, and provides four years of tuition assistance to a high school student.

The Robert E. Rossell Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Robert and Mary Bowlin, in memory of Robert E. Rossell, and provides tuition assistance to high school students.

The Rohwetter Scholarship

A scholarship program established by the late Doris Rohwetter to fund an annual scholarship.


The Richard A. and Jeanne B. Sheils Scholarship

This scholarship program was established by Richard and Jeanne B. Sheils to provide tuition assistance to students attending St. Genevieve School in Elizabeth.




The St. Catherine of Sienna Scholarship

This scholarship program provides four-year scholarships to students entering Catholic high school from Catholic elementary school.

Spectra Energy Scholarship

This scholarship provides tuition assistance to high school students who reside in Bayonne, Hoboken, Jersey City and Linden.

The Speedwell Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship program, established in 2008, provides tuition assistance to elementary school students attending St. Joseph School and Our Lady Help of Christians School in East Orange and St. Mary of the Assumption School in Elizabeth.

The Reverend Joseph A. Stulb Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Father Stulb to provide tuition assistance to students who attend Queen of Angels School.

The John F. Taranta, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Established by Br. Ralph Darmento, F.S.C., this scholarship provides four years of tuition assistance to high school students attending; Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair in memory of Josephine and Dominick Gandino, Marist High School in Bayonne in memory of Ralph and Maria DeLillo, Benedictine Academy in Elizabeth in memory of Elvira Darmento and St. Mary of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth in memory of John F. and Jean Taranta.



The Union Foundation Scholarship

A scholarship program established by the Union Foundation to provide tuition assistance to students attending Catholic schools in Union County.


The U.S. Space & Rocket Center Program (Space Camp)

This program was established by Mark and Kathy Walchak. The scholarship provides inner-city Catholic high school sophomores and juniors with a one week expense paid scholarship to attend Advanced Space Camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.


The Anna E. Whittington Scholarship

A scholarship established by the Estate of Anna Whittington to provide four years of tuition assistance to an African-American Catholic high school graduate attending an accredited four-year college.n.
